My name is Phil March, and I have been working in the hi fi industry since 1980, a time when record players and radios were the main source for listening to music. I started my first retail business in Hull in 1983, later migrating south and opening Phonography in Ringwood in 1997.
Having spent a part of my life as a professional musician, what I listen for in a hi fi component or system is its ‘musical’ performance, where pitch and timing are the most important considerations. There is a lot of audio equipment available that is impressive in high fidelity terms, but singularly fails to communicate in a musical fashion. I sell and maintain a small selection of mainly analogue products that I have been happy to use at home, and recommend to others. I service and maintain record players, mainly Linn and Rega, companies with which I have strong historical ties. I also supply Dynavector, Shahinian, Well Tempered and Tangerine Audio products amongst others, see links below. I am based near Salisbury, and I supply my products in that area for home demonstration, I also have a good knowledge of most of the products of the last forty years, and I can advise on setting up systems within the home to get the best results. |
